10 questions, about 2 minutes

Everyone Submits to Something. Did You Choose Yours?

Careers. Anxiety. Money. What your family will say. Everybody is already obeying something. The only real question is whether you picked it on purpose. Ten questions.

Question 1 of 10
"There is something in my life I obey every single day that I never actually agreed to."
Question 2 of 10
It is a Sunday evening and you feel the weight arrive. The week is coming. Sit with it for a second and be honest about where the weight is actually coming from.
The work. It is the first thing I think about and the last, and I never chose that.
What people will make of me. Not the tasks. The being seen doing them badly.
Nothing much. I know what the week is for and I picked it, so it is just a week.
A life somebody else designed for me that I never got around to questioning.
Question 3 of 10
Which statement feels more true for you?
Statement A
"Answering to nobody is the whole point. The second I owe someone, I have lost something."
Statement B
"Answering to the right person is a relief. I have spent enough years answering to nobody."
Question 4 of 10
"I have made a serious decision mainly because of what somebody else would think of me."
Question 5 of 10
A friend describes their life and it is completely ordered. They know what they answer to and they seem genuinely settled inside it. Not smug. Just settled. What is your honest first reaction?
Something like hunger. I would not say it out loud but I want what they have.
Suspicion. Order like that usually means somebody stopped asking difficult questions.
Recognition. That is roughly my life and it took me years to stop apologising for it.
Exhaustion. I am too far into what I am already carrying to imagine rearranging it.
Question 6 of 10
Which statement feels more true for you?
Statement A
"Rules limit me. Every structure I have been handed made my life smaller."
Statement B
"Rules free me. When the boundaries are clear I stop negotiating and start living."
Question 7 of 10
"If the thing I organise my life around disappeared tomorrow, I would not know who I was for a while."
Question 8 of 10
Someone asks you directly what you would not give up for anyone, no matter what they offered. You have five seconds. What arrives first?
A person. Instantly, with no argument in my head about it at all.
The work. And I felt something uncomfortable when I noticed it came first.
My independence. It is the one thing I have never handed to anybody.
Nothing arrived, and that silence is louder than any of the other answers.
Question 9 of 10
"I would rather be told clearly what is expected of me than be asked what I want every time."
Question 10 of 10
Last one. Which statement feels more true for you?
Statement A
"I am free because nothing owns me. That is what I have built and I would defend it."
Statement B
"I am free because I picked what owns me, and I could walk out tomorrow and will not."
